STATISTICS AND FORECASTS  Introduction

Current statistics counts various professional service robot units on the market. However, these units are mostly demolition robots, underwater robots and medical robots, they are not directly related to mobile robotics. The forecast for 2006 expects much larger growth for the service robotics market which explains why the Japan Robot Association stated that: "The demand for personal robots will grow to $11 billion in 2010 and to a level on par with the automobile industry by the end of the 21st century"
